По определению пионера этого направления, американского художника Сола Ле Витта, в концептуализме идея или понятие (концепт) является самым важным аспектом работы. Это означает, что решение принято заранее, а его выполнение - всего лишь формальность. Идея превращается в механизм.
Вообще говоря, концептуальное искусство представляет собой сочетание различных тенденций, а не тесно связанного движения. И имеет множество форм (в их числе: инсталляции, перфомансы, хэппенинги, эфемера). Зарождалось оно в первой половине двадцатого века не как художественное направление, а как определенная философия, ставящая под сомнение смысл самого искусства. Дадаист Морис Дюшан, который ввел практику, утверждал, что идея произведения имеет большее значение, чем его физическое представление. С середины 1960-х до середины 1970-х художники-концептуалисты создавали произведения, полностью отвергая традиционные идеи искусства: эстетику, выразительность, мастерство (в том числе, и соответствие требованиям рынка).
Тем не менее, важно понять, что концептуальное искусство развивалось в последовательности авангардистских движений (кубизм, и тому подобное), которые преуспели в том, что значительно расширили границы самого Концептуалисты (в строгом смысле) являются завершителями авангардисткой традиции. По правде говоря, неважно, соответствует ли этот чрезвычайно сложный интеллектуальный вид субъективным представлениям о том, каким должно быть искусство, поскольку факт остается фактом. Некоторые работы концептуалистов воспринимаются музеями, коллекционерами, арт-дилерами как шедевры мирового искусства.
Заимствуя различные методы (как например, минимализм) художники-концептуалисты стремились переосмыслить не опиравшиеся на теоретические основы искусства формы поп-арта. Находившиеся под сильным влиянием упомянутого выше минимализма (его простоты), они, в тоже время, категорически отвергали его концепции, которые воплощались в скульптуре или живописи, характерные для перцепционного или «ощущаемого» искусства (оно создается, прежде всего, для визуального восприятия). По отношению к нему «понятийное» преследует совершенно иные цели. выражающее идеи очень субъективно и крайне символично, может служить в некоторой степени ассоциацией ему. Идея, по мнению художников, может оформиться в любой физической форме. Отношения между художником, который использует все доступные элементы выражения, его произведением и зрителем абсолютно преобразованы.
Концептуальное искусство - это не просто описание природы во всем её многообразии. Художник выражает свое отношение к социальным, политическим, технологическим вещам и процессам. Во многих случаях зритель и сам художник становятся неотъемлемой частью этого искусства и его основных концепций. Начавшись как движение среди многочисленных арт-тенденций шестидесятых годов, задуманное, чтобы продемонстрировать приоритет идеи художника, сегодня оно рассматривается в совокупности (как эстетическая точка зрения концептуализма), оказывая большое влияние на современные способы художественного выражения.
Человек как субъект познания является носителем определённой системы знаний, представлений, мнений об объективной действительности. Эта система в разных науках имеет своё название (картина мира, концептуальная система мира, модель мира, образ мира) и рассматривается в разных аспектах. Картина мира понимается многими современными лингвистами как исходный глобальный образ мира, лежащий в основе мировидения человека. Понятие «концептуальная картина мира » используется различными науками.
Одной из научных дисциплин, занимающихся изучением концептуальной картины мира, является когнитивная лингвистика . Ключевым понятием когнитивной лингвистики является концепт.
Впервые в отечественной науке термин концепт был употреблен С.А.Аскольдовым-Алексеевым в 1928 г.
Д. С. Лихачев примерно в это же время использовал понятие концепт для обозначения мыслительной единицы, которая отражает явления действительности в зависимости от образования, личного опыта, профессионального и социального опыта носителя языка и позволяет общающимся преодолевать существующие между ними индивидуальные различия в понимании слов. (Лихачев 1993: 5).
Попова З.Д. и Стернин И.О. определяют концепт как «ментальное образование, представляющее собой результат познавательной (когнитивной) деятельности личности и общества и несущее комплексную, энциклопедическую информацию об отражаемом предмете или явлении, об интерпретации данной информации общественным сознанием и отношении общественного сознания к данному явлению или предмету » (Попова, Стернин 2007: 25). То есть концепт является неким представлением о фрагменте мира или части такого фрагмента.
Согласно, Ю.С. Степанову, концепт – это как бы сгусток культуры в сознании человека; то, в виде чего культура входит в ментальный мир человека. И, с другой стороны, концепт – это то, посредством чего человек – рядовой, обычный человек – сам входит в культуру, а в некоторых случаях и влияет на нее. (Степанов 2004: 43)
Возьмем, например, представления рядового человека, не юриста, о «законном» и «противозаконном», – они концентрируются, прежде всего, в концепте «закон». И этот концепт существует в сознании (в ментальном мире) такого человека, конечно, не в виде четких понятий о «разделении властей», об исторической эволюции понятия закона, и т. п. Тот «пучок» представлений, понятий, знаний, ассоциаций, переживаний, который сопровождает слово закон, и есть концепт «закон». В отличие от понятий в собственном смысле термина (таких, скажем, как «постановление», «юридический акт», «текст закона» и т. п.), концепты не только мыслятся, они переживаются. Они – предмет эмоций, симпатий и антипатий, а иногда и столкновений. Концепт – основная ячейка культуры в ментальном мире человека. (Степанов 2004: 43)
Термином концепт называю содержание понятия; таким образом, термин концепт становится синонимичным термину смысл. В то время как термин значение становится синонимичным термину объем понятия. Говоря проще, значение слова – это тот предмет или те предметы, к которым это слово правильно, в соответствии с нормами данного языка применимо, а концепт – это смысл слова.
Приведем пример. В русском языке слово петух имеет «значение» и «смысл». Его «значение» – это все птицы определенного внешнего вида (которому соответствует их зоологическая характеристика): ходячая (не летающая) птица, самец, с красным гребнем на голове и шпорами на ногах. «Смыслом» же слова петух будет нечто иное (хотя, разумеется, находящееся в соответствии со «значением»): а) домашняя птица, б) самец кур, в) птица, поющая определенным образом и своим пением отмечающая время суток, г) птица, названная по своему особенному пению: петух от глагола петь (такая же связь имеется и в близкородственном к славянским языкам литовском языке: gaidys «петух», gaida «напев, мелодия», giesme «торжественная песнь»); д) вещая птица, с которой связано много поверий и обрядов. (Степанов 2004: 44)
В структуре концепта отображаются признаки, функционально значимые для соответствующей культуры.
Можно привести пример из современной русской жизни. Всем известно, что в последние десятилетия в жизни теперешнего активного населения России день 23 февраля был ежегодным «праздником мужчин», а день 8 марта – «праздником женщин». В первый из этих дней предметом торжества являлись все мужчины, независимо от их профессии и возраста, – дома, на предприятиях, в школах от первого до последнего класса и даже в детских садах мальчики получали поздравления и мелкие подарки от девочек. Во второй из этих дней точно то же делают мужчины и мальчики по отношению к женщинам и девочкам. Этот факт культурной жизни образует концепт. В данном случае перед нами к тому же «двойной концепт», состоящий из двух связанных представлений о двух праздниках. Обозначим описанное положение дел как «положение дел 1».
Столь же хорошо известно, что по своему происхождению эти два праздника никак между собой не связаны. 23 февраля отмечался (и в жизни старшего поколения все еще является таковым) как «День Советской Армии », т. е. праздник военных. 8 марта отмечался как «Международный женский день», т. е. день борьбы за равноправие женщин с мужчинами. В этом качестве оба праздника не соотносятся между собой («положение дел 2»).
Наконец, историки и некоторая часть просто образованных людей знают (причем больше о 23 февраля, чем о 8 марта) исторические факты далекого прошлого, приведшие к установлению этих памятных дней. 23 февраля 1918 г. Красная Армия одержала под Нарвой и Псковом крупную победу над войсками Германии. Это событие тесно связано с именем Л.Д. Троцкого. 8 марта как праздник было определено по инициативе Клары Цеткин, активной деятельницы международного женского и коммунистического движения; она была одним из основателей Коммунистической партии Германии («положение дел 3»).
Совершенно очевидно, что все три положения дел – (1), (2), (3) – отражены в существующем в нашем сознании «концепте дней 23 февраля и 8 марта». Но отражены они по-разному, с разной степенью актуальности, как разные компоненты этого концепта. Компонент (1) является наиболее актуальным, собственно, он-то и составляет основной признак в содержании концепта «праздник». Компонент (2) все еще участвует в понятии «праздник», но не столь живо, образуя его как бы дополнительный, «пассивный» признак. Компонент (3) уже не осознается в повседневной жизни, но является «внутренней формой» этого концепта. Такие же компоненты, или «слои», имеются и в других концептах и явлениях духовной культуры вообще и современной русской в частности. (Степанов 2004: 46)
Расчленяя картину мира на языковую и концептуальную, ряд исследователей (Г.В. Колшанский, Е.С. Кубрякова, В.И. Постовалова, Б.А. Серебренников) замечают, что концептуальная картина мира богаче и шире языковой картины мира.
«Концепт не обязательно имеет языковое выражение – существует много концептов, которые не имеют устойчивого названия и при этом их концептуальный статус не вызывает сомнения (например, есть концепт и слово молодожены , но нет слова «старожены», хотя такой концепт в концептосфере народа, несомненно, есть)» (Попова, Стернин 2007: 26).
Таким образом, концептуальная картина мира – это система информации об объектах, актуально и потенциально представленная в деятельности индивида. Единицей информации такой системы является концепт, функция которого состоит в фиксации и актуализации понятийного, эмоционального, ассоциативного, вербального, культурологического и иного содержания объектов действительности, включённого в структуру концептуальной картины мира.
Концептуализм — направление, возникшее в Америке и Европе в 1960-х гг., но также имеющее богатое наследие и в русской культуре. Это его отличает от современных ему направлений — абстрактного экспрессионизма и поп-арта, которые на территории Советского Союза трансформировались в совсем другие (см. статью )

Главным объектом концептуального искусства является идея, поэтому оно часто работает с текстом. По сути, оно изучает границу между текстом и визуальными образами. Произведением концептуального искусства может быть не только картина, но также и скульптура, и инсталляция, и перформанс.
Самыми яркими представителями концептуализма на западном фронте можно назвать Джозефа Кошута, Ива Кляйна, в некоторые периоды творчества — Пьеро Мандзони, Роберта Раушенберга. Кроме Кошута, остальные художники приходили к концептуализму и через какое-то время отказывались от него.
Среди московских концептуалистов основными являются Илья Кабаков, Виктор Пивоваров, далее — Андрей Монастырский, Игорь Макаревич и группа «Коллективные действия», в некоторых своих работах — группа «Гнездо».
Обратите внимание, что мы не пишем «стиль», мы пишем «направление» — у концептуального искусства нет единого «стиля» — как, скажем, у импрессионизма. Самыми характерными стилевыми особенностями можно называть частое присутствие текста на картине.

Самым показательным примером, на котором разбирают понятие «концептуальное искусство», является работа Джозефа Кошута «Один и три стула», или его многочисленные описывающие сами себя произведения из неоновых ламп. Кошут великолепно формулировал свое искусство: «Основное значение концептуализма, как мне представляется, состоит в коренном переосмыслении того, каким образом функционирует произведение искусства — или, как функционирует сама культура: как может меняться смысл, даже если материал не меняется. …физическая оболочка должна быть разрушена, т. к. искусство — это сила идеи, а не материала».

Что же интересно в этом стуле? К примеру, то, что Джозеф Кошут не приезжал самолично выбирать стул в магазин, чтоб его произведение экспонировалось в новом месте. Стул выбирал ассистент куратора — по сути, неважно кто. Каждый раз, при каждом повторении это произведение будет авторства Джозефа Кошута, потому что художник — автор идеи.
Произведения Кошута описывают сами себя в большинстве случаев, не являясь при этом объектом эстетического наслаждения. Для художника важно обратиться к вашему сознанию, не затронув при этом эмоциональный спектр. Если мыслить в историческом контексте, то это вполне объяснимо — эмоциональный спектр зрителя был совершенно выжат вырывающимися на холст экзистенциальными откровениями художников-экспрессионистов.

В чем же отличие московского концептуализма от западного? Главным автором, который препарировал и определил понятие «московский концептуализм» является Борис Гройс. Он автор термина, который до сих пор в ходу — «московский романтический концептуализм». Дело в том, что западный концептуализм не содержал в своей основе литературу (имеется в виду «большая» литература).
«Оба отца-основателя московского концептуализма, Илья Кабаков и Виктор Пивоваров, называют в истоках своего творчества великую русскую литературу. У Кабакова очень часто в основе его произведений какие-то персонажи. Среди его героев появляется бездарный художник. Или человек, который ничего не выбрасывает — как в его инсталляции «10 персонажей», в которой работы Кабаковым между 10 вымышленными персонажами, каждый из которых — маленькими герой, который живет в маленькой квартире, забитый, его никто не знает, он такой застенчивый маргинальный персонаж, и он тайком, тихо, делает какие-то вещи для души. Когда он на виду, он живет тихой жизнью клерка, рабочего на фабрике и так далее. Очень незаметный человек. И этот герой, этот маленький человек — этот тот самый «маленький человек» из произведений Гоголя, Чехова», — Наталья Сидорова .
Произведения московских концептуалистов — это часто «литература», история, рассказанная не литературным языком, а в форме инсталляций, картины, или набором объектом.
К тому же, это всегда немного исповедь. Кабаков не рассказывает о себе, но он «проговаривается» о себе, доверяя свою историю, разбивая себя на несколько героев. Что-то, что есть в нем — какая-то маленькая, прячущаяся черта — он рассказывает о ней, придумав персонаж, который несет в себе эту черту в более ярко выраженном виде.
«Это важно, учитывая, что на глобальной сцене концептуализм и исповедальное искусство — совершенные антиподы — нельзя сравнивать концептуализм с экспрессионизмом — там есть исповедь, надрыв души, когда художник предельно себя выражает. Но в московском концептуализме есть некая исповедальность, даже некая эмоциональность, просто не проявленная криком», — Н. С.
Возьмем, к примеру, вышеописанную работу Кошута — «Один и три стула» — в ней нет автора. Автор в этих произведениях изымается, и даже конкретный экспонируемый предмет может быть подобран кем угодно — из этих работ мы ничего не узнаем о характере Кошута. В западно-европейской направлении это отсутствие предусмотрено нарочно, там у автора нет личной манеры и быть ее не может, нет личной истории, и есть только примат концепции.
Пивоваров и Кабаков — это киты, но есть другое поколение, к примеру, Юрий Альберт — он очень последовательный концептуалист. Его работа «Живопись для слепых» представляет собой черный щит, покрытый масляной эмалью, и на его части прикреплены маленькие полусферы, тоже покрытые этим цветом. Отходя на небольшое расстояние, зритель понимает, что это шрифт Брайля. Этим шрифтом набрана фраза «Не продается вдохновение, но можно живопись продать». Шрифт Брайля крупный, невидящий человек не смог бы прочитать, т. к. надпись слишком большая, а человек видящий не может понять, что там написано — для него это просто минимализм (см. статью про ). Получается, что здесь главное — концепция, насколько мы понимаем или не понимаем искусство.

«Есть искушение рассуждать о том, что для Альберта самое важное — констатировать, что зритель очень часто не понимает современное искусство, но, на самом деле, как сам художник комментирует этот проект — речь идет вообще о степени понимания искусства — есть ли этот идеальный зритель, который действительно понимает, что выражает художник. Более того, современное искусство нам может быть понятно потому, что оно родом из нашего времени, и потому, что мы легко, стоя перед произведением, можем выйти в сеть и получить сразу какое-то количество текстов и про Альберта, и про ЭДИ. А что делать с искусством прошлых веков? Можно сколько угодно о картинах Иеронима Босха, сколько угодно приводить исторических фактов, особенностей культуры, народа, эпохи, мы не сможем перестроить свою оптику, потому что мы -не люди 16го века», — Наталья Сидорова .
Если «первая волна» концептуалистов очень серьезно относилась к своему творчеству («Искусство до нашего времени — это настолько же искусство, насколько неандерталец — это человек!»), то последователи этого направления вполне позволяли себе самоиронию в своих работах — впрочем, никогда не отказываясь от принципов произведения, рефлексирующего на тему себя и от текстового наполнения.
Концептуализм от лат. «сonceptus» – понятие, мысль, – направление в культуре ХХ века. Он сформировался в течении постмодернизма в 1960–1980-е годы.
Концептуализм направлен на создание композиций, целью которых является предъявление некоторой художественной идеи. Он объединил процесс творчества и его исследование. Это творчество занято анализом собственного языка. Его задача – переход от формирования художественных произведений к объявлению «художественных идей».
Дискутируя с поп-артом, который сосредоточен на предметном мире, концептуалисты объясняли, что единственная заслуженная задача художника – это генерация идей и концепций.
Как направление концептуализм сформировался в конце 60-70-х среди художников Великобритании, Франции, США, Нидерландов, Советского Союза и Италии. Как полагают апологеты этого течения, так как концепция произведения главнее, чем ее физическое выражение, цель творчества – передача идеи или свидетельствование о ее содержащих событиях, что может быть осуществлено с помощью фотографии, различных текстов, магнитофонных и видеозаписей и так далее.
Огромную роль получает инструкция к пояснению арт-объекта.
Художники концептуализма
Напрвление быстро выросло и приобрело международный размах. В концептуализме работали художники: Л.Левин, ЛеВито, Х.Хааке, Р.Берри, Дж.Кошут в США, Я.Диббетс в Нидерландах, В.Аккончин в Италии, Крейг-Мартин, Б. МакЛин, Берджин, Арнатт, Лонг, Келли в Великобритании и другие. Огромное влияние на концептуалистов осуществило дело практика дадаизма и теоретика Марселя Дюшана, который еще в 1913 году в Нью-Йорке стал выставлять переосмысленные в новом ключе предметы массового изготовления – реди-мэйды: велосипед на табуретке, писсуар «Фонтан», «Мона Лиза» с усами и так далее.
Концептуализм – интеллектуальное творчество, в большинстве ироничное – возникло изначально как противовес коммерческому искусству.
Концептуальную композицию не имеет смысла покупать или продавать, составные части для них подбирали из предметов обихода, иногда художественный объект становился сам автор. Стюарт Брисли на протяжении двух недель часами находился в ванной, которая наполнена черной грязной жидкостью, в Лондонской художественной галерее (намекая на загрязнение окружающей среды и плохую экологию). Ингрид и Йен Бакстер перевернули все, что было в их квартире, в пластиковые мешки и сделали выставку (объект наблюдения может быть любой вещью). Кейт Арнатт вывесил на себе вывеску «Я настоящий художник», сфотографировал себя и поместил изображение на выставке (художником является тот, кто себя им считает). Аккончи сфотографировал, а затем прокомментировал, как он ежедневно вставал и сходил на стулья, после этого сравнивал различные методы, которыми он это делал (разнообразие способов действия).
Концептуальным объектом, с положенным комментарием, может быть любой предмет (телеграмма, фотография, диаграмма, текст, график, репродукция, схема, объект, ксерокс, формула). Концептуальная композиция являла собой художественный чистый жест, который освобожден от какой-либо пластической формы. Зачастую использовали природные материалы – трава, земля, зола, хлеб, пепел от костра, снег. Составная часть композиции — среда, в которой демонстрировались концептуальные объекты, – морское побережье, населенный пункт, улица, поле, горы, лес, инженерное сооружение, здание и так далее.
